This morning was the coolest yet. I looked at the outside thermometer bleary-eyed and without glasses on at 7 a.m. and thought that I saw the line below ten degrees. By the time I got dressed for sub-10 it was maybe 11 degrees. I wore a winter mitt on my left hand to support my camera and two thin gloves on my right hand. I didn't need the Tilley hat anymore, so it was replaced with a bow hunter's cap and a hoodie, then a second coat over my camo jacket. This is nuts, man. In retrospect, I'm glad that I donned all this insulation. It turned out to be fairly calm, not the wind gusts forecast. No clouds to shroud the morning sun. From 7:30 until 8:15 there was very little activity. Then sparrows started to appear and they were mostly White-throated and a few Song sparrows. A couple of RC kinglet, and a couple of GC kinglets. Two E. phoebe as well. A male sapsucker and two juveniles but no Hermit thrush, no vireos, no warblers and no towhee. By 9 o'clock it was dead. There was no N wind last night but there will be one tonight and therefore I'll try again tomorrow.
