Over the last week there have been a couple of reports of Snow bunting flocks on Concession Road 3. On both those occasions I think that it was sunny. You remember the sun? Anyway, the sun was out this morning, about 10 o'clock, and so I dropped by to discover a mumuration of Snow bunting that spent very little time actually on the ground. They did not land on the road, only in the field, a clear view of which is ruined by roadside shrubs. The flock would often divide and conquer different parts of the field. A good number of bunting occasionally perched on the crown of small consenting roadside trees, adorning the leafless branches like bunting. Bunting just perched for long periods showing no urgency to feed. Unfortunately, hydro trucks were driving down the sideline to repair something and that intrusion would send the perched bunting back into flight mode. When clouds moved over the sun bird activity diminished.
