After turning onto Concession Rd. 3 from the York/Durham Rd. I noticed a bird perched (facing south) but also way up on top of a spindly tree.  I immediately pulled over because I knew that it wasn't a robin, or a blue jay.  I trained my lens on it through the slanted windshield to confirm that it was indeed a shrike.  By the time I got out of my car to try a photo another car with a flashing beacon on its roof raced by in the opposite direction and the shrike flew away to the south over a farmer's field.  There was no other car after that.  Same as when I recently spotted a RTH on the snow with its prey. I promptly pulled over, got out, approached under the concealment of the snowbank and just then a car came racing over the crest of the hill and the hawk flew away into the adjacent woodlot.  I saw no other car after that.  MY TIMING SUCKS!
