Very well said P1Guy!
And if I can add my 2 cents (Or have I run out of change on this thread?), how can you get others that are not birders interested in birding?
I've spent the last 4 months at Rosetta McClain Gardens with BIGFRANK doing his annual Raptor Watch/Count. He doesn't do his Raptor Watch "officially" for one simple reason, he does it for the sheer enjoyment of seeing the birds and sharing ALL of his knowledge with anybody that happens to be in the park, workers included. I couldn't tell you just how many people he has got interested in at least seeking some knowledge about the birds and birding in general. It was always fun to watch the expressions on people's faces after they had asked us what we were doing sitting/standing there for and BIGFRANK would happily say "We're here to watch Hawks, Falcons, Vultures, and Eagles" and then their jaws would hit the ground, they couldn't believe that birds like that were flying through the city, many didn't even know that the Raptors were even in Ontario at all. After that, they would start asking the questions. This is what birding should be all about, sharing the knowledge, not keeping it hidden.
Ok, that's it, I'm done! Did I spend more then my 2 cents this time?
Happy Birding
Walter
