Hi,

I'll be participating. I posted about the gbbc, back in January. I know Toronto was under-represented last year. Let's get counting this year!

Hey!

Yes..and we will be traveling as well..

My favourite sport, mobile bird watching..  My wife just loves it..

Yeah, we have a date up North so might as well check out the place. Routine stuff, ensure the roof hasn't collapsed etc..

Should be interesting. "Four feet of snow melting in 3 days" . I have to fill the feeders too..

good luck. with your GBBC :!:

After the wet weather of the last couple of days, we had an abundance of visitors to our backyard. We usually only see a couple of Blue Jays, an occasional Cardinal & the usual American GFs, Siskins & Black-capped Chickadees. We had over 30 finches & siskins feeding at one time and usually about 15 regularly. We had 5-6 cardinals including 3 females at one time & 2 males once in a while! At one point the jays & the cardinals were discussing the possession of our Cedars with a chickadee adding his two cents - what a noise! We saw more birds in 8 of the 10 species we could identify or photograph than we have ever had. It was a great day for birding!

We even added some Ring Billed Gulls who dropped in after visiting the Wendy's behind us.

Yes!   :D

So far, have participated for 3 days and will do more tomorrow!

A few highlights for now:

Col. Sam Smith Park, Etobicoke - King Eider, Harlequin Ducks and Snowy Owl.

Riverwood Park, Mississauga - Belted Kingfisher.  Noisy guy! but a pleasant surprise.   First time I've seen one at this park.  No sign of the Brown Thrasher today.

Update:  I have finally completed the GBBC ... 4 days and 10 parks.   My brain is now fried!  It was truly a Labour of Love though.   Total number of birds I reported:  648.  Wow!

A couple of the higher numbers:  Greater Scaup x 55 at Col. Sam Smith Park, Black-capped Chickadee x 23 at Riverwood Park, Common Redpoll x 20 at Riverwood Park, Mallard x 60 at Port Credit Marina, Mute Swan x 18 at Port Credit Marina, etc.

So I forced my best friend and my hubby to go bird watching with me on the 13th for the GBBC :D  We went to the dam in Caledonia, to Binbrook conservation area and to 50 point conservation area. It was great, We counted over 20 species and in some good numbers. Most of the birds were water species; we couldn't get over how high the dam water was in Caledonia! Should be an interesting spring this year. Hope that ever one had fun doing their count and that you were all able to enter in your lists and some photo's for the contest. If you go to the link I posted above you can view some of the photo's that were taken; looks like it'll be a hrard year for the judges. Good luck if you have a photo entered, I would love to see someone from here to win something   :D

Hi all,

I'm glad so many of you got out to count the birds and support the gbbc. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology reports that this year's checklist submissions have broken last year's record! Birders take a bow.

I watched my yard (plus my neighbourhood) and had some interesting sightings. On one day, I had a flock of 19 Common Redpolls show up. I saw three Crows chasing a local Red-tailed Hawk. Yesterday, I  saw the Red-tail flying with its mate.

My hubby and I took friends down to Col. Sam Smith on Sunday. We had great looks at the eider and we found one of the Snowy Owls at the marina.
