snowy morning

Busy at the feeders this wintery morning. My flock of 20ish pine siskens are back. We were down to about 5 for the past few days so I guess they have just been elsewhere. Also many gold finches and junkos

It's amazing how the dull overcast weather seems to bring out the masses! I had a flock of goldfinches, juncos, chickadees, cardinals, robins, mourning doves and finally, a bluejay. Boy, did that male cardinal take off like a shot when the bluejay showed up! Come to think of it, it IS opening day!!

At the height of the blizzard yesterday.....I had about 20 robins grouped together on the lawn in the backyard.

It was quite an odd site.....especially since they are usually battling at this time....plus there is a new nest already on the back wall of my house.

I think they were just stunned at the amount of snow and were probably discussing who's bright idea was it to come back this early   :shock:

We had a pretty full feeder this morning too.  Siskins, Juncos, Morning Doves, Cardinals, Jays and a new arrival...  our first (this year) White-throated Sparrow.  At first I thought he was a siskin until he stood up.

Yesterdays cold and wind kept most of the birds away but when I went out to resupply the feeder I looked up and saw a poor RB nuthacht cowering on the lee-side of a large pine tree trying to keep warm...  very sad looking little bird.
