(Norman will be so proud!)

Hi everybody.  I made it about 2/3 of the way around Lake Aquitaine earlier this afternoon when a truly Psycho male Red-winged Blackbird appeared.  He was hovering directly in front of me, trying to flap his wings in my face, trying to bite my nose! then going after my fingers when I covered my nose and mouth area.  Then I put my hands down by my sides and he went after my hands.  Cripes!    I tried shoo-ing him away but he went after my fingers again.

The weirdest thing is, he didn't actually peck me ... just seemed to be going through the motions!  He was determined to not let me get past a certain area along the main trail.  We were having a showdown for a good three minutes!

Funny!  I had the same behaviour from a pair of tree swallows yesterday, I think I was too close to their nest box - then they landed side by side and let me take their picture :-)

...you didn't say who won - did you turn around or get past him?

 Cripes, really?!

I've never had any problems with tree swallows before but have had 2 separate male Red-winged Blackbirds peck the back of my head during surprise attacks.  These males at Lake Aquitaine are completely nuts!

The only nest I've seen so far out here at the lake is a Robin's nest.  I'm keeping my eyes open for babies.  :)

Too funny re: picture.    At least you got a good souvenir out of the experience!

I went left, he went left ... I went right, he went right .... Arrgh!  Finally, he flew onto a low branch of a small bare tree just to my right side and was giving me the total evil eye!  I then continued to walk along the main trail but kept looking back constantly, not trusting him at all - was expecting a peck to the back of the head!
