Next to the marsh at the Kingston SPCA this evening, they have a strange call.

The bird in the picture is a Common Moorhen, which is in the Gallinule genus. Common Gallinule is an alternative name. There is also Purple Gallinule, which is a different species breeding in South-Eastern U.S.

Thanks thouc, much appreciated. I am still using a 1980 Peterson Field Giude, moorhen is not named in it.
