I made it out for a short 45 minute walk at the base of the Spit this evening and spotted a couple of highlights. All the birds were on the eastern (more open) edge of the "wet woods", and between the woods and the main road out onto the Spit.
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER - perched high on several of the dead trees (only the dead trees, interestingly). It was having terrific success catching large insects...they may have been dragonflies but I couldn't see tails on them...bees perhaps?
EASTERN KINGBIRD - 2 - including 1 that was close to the Olive-Sided for a short time, allowing for interesting comparison of size, shape and, of course, plumage.
LEAST FLYCATCHER
CANADA WARBLER
MAGNOLIA WARBLER - 2
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER
BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH
RED-EYED VIREO
WOODCOCK (I am not sure who was more startled...me or the Woodcock!)
In addition to the birds, there were lots of Monarchs and, among them, a couple of Viceroys...one of which obligingly landed right infront of me for close inspection.
Good Birding!
