Heron or Bittern?

I was thinking American Bittern by the colouring but there is no black band on the cheek.  The pic is too dark i took it at 8:30 last night.  Here's where having an F4 or faster lens would have helped.

Hello,

You have capture a great pic of a Juvenile Black-Crowned Night Heron, I'm guessing it was born this year.

Nice find!  I've only ever seen adults roaming around in streams and ponds.

Hey thanks for the ID.  I guess this is where them storm overflow ponds are a good place to check out if you have any nearby.  They are quite popular out in Durham region with all the new subdivisions.  I would never have thought to bring my camera with me but it happened to be in my truck.  I was taking the young lad to catch frogs and low and behold a Great Blue Heron flies off as we arrived but the Nihgt Heron stayed around.  Its not a very big pond so we were pretty close.
