Afternoon folks.
This morning I headed over to Hanlans Point to see if anything had come in over night and though I was only able to bird a small part of Hanlans because the Chain Saws and Wood Chippers were in full voice I did see some nice birds.
As I walked along the east side of the airfield fence I counted 14 Eastern Bluebirds the usual Sparrows including Lincoln's (100's of White-throats and Juncos ) and a few E. Phoebes. On my way back from the south end of the fence I spotted a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker feeding in the grass, flying to ground level tree trunks and back into the grass.
Also seen were Brown Creeper, both Nuthatches, both Kinglets, Flicker, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, White-crowned, Swamp and Tree Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Winter Wren, Belted Kingfisher.
Forgot to mention the juvenile male Purple Finch singing at the tip of a Spruce Tree.
On the beach were Black-bellied Plovers, Dunlin and Sanderlings and on the lake were 500+ Red-breasted Mergansers and 14 Common Loons, some of them calling.
