Duck Expert Needed

I saw this duck at High Park yesterday.
By the time I said "what the heck is that" she(?) had gone into the reeds with her mate(?)
The other duck (mate) was basically all black.
This is the only shot I managed to take. The other "black" duck was too far into the reeds to get off any shot at all.
Sorry for what you have to work with, but any suggestions on an I.D?
Thanks for your help here and in all other I.D posts I have made.
The help is greatly appreciated.

I would guess from what little I can see that it's a Mallard / domestic cross.
