Recent backyard visitors - a shy opossum and a grey squirrel

Jim ... those are great photos!  

How cute is that squirrel!  Lately, squirrels are looking really fluffy and bulked up for Winter.  

Neat Opossum photo with the tail hanging over.  What time of day/night did you take this photo?

Hi Jo-Anne ,
My son JR ( Jim Jr.)was at our house for supper and took the photo of the opossum at about 9pm . He always takes his camera with him .
During the last few weeks we've been putting out food scraps for the critters and besides the 2 we photo'ed we've had raccoons, skunks, crows ( they come warily to the deck) many other squirrels and a Cooper's Hawk which has been making regular flybys. The seed in the feeders sure is lasting longer these days !
Went to Rattray yesterday morn. and with the beautiful weather it sure was crowded . Lots of people - no birds to speak of. The Marsh is almost dry of water with just a small stream running through. I did see, however, at Arkendo, lots of water birds in the Lake . Made my first sighting this year of Scaups, American Widgeons and Gadwalls . Lots of Canada geese and Mallards around . There have been sightings of a Harlequin along the Lake and I think I sighted one - but it was quite a distance off shore so I'm not sure - some other ducks  as well . I plan on going back and try taking photos for I'd .

Jimmy,  I have been dying to see an opossum, but I have to be honest now that I've seen your picture.  It's a little scary looking ... still would love to see one.  Great capture.

Yes, Clarkson is a good area to live in. Lots of good birding close to home and a variety of wildlife nearby . Deer and red fox can often be seen behind the Petro Can woodlots -a stones throw from home.
The opossum , with those sharp teeth can probably look after itself very capably .

Moira ... that picture made me laugh too.  First thought was "Hitchin' A Ride!".  :lol:

Would definitely love to see that - and would wish that I had a camera!  Have seen adult Opossums before but never with 11 babies riding around on mom's back.
