hoping you can help me out, and i apologize for the lack of info.
i didn't have my camera at the time, so i don't have a picture of this bird.
there were around 5 of them at the Brickworks hanging out together.
they had the same body structure as a chickadee but were bigger and fatter.
colour-wise, they were brown like a sparrow, including its chest.
its head had almost a stripe of a darker brown, giving it a helmet or mohawk look (but the feathers weren't crown-like)
it was very talkative with a high-pitched "kerrr-REEEEE!" that sounded like a dog's squeekytoy.
at first i thought it was a pine siskin or a type of warbler, but I assumed that there wouldn't be warblers in toronto this time of year. i looked at pictures of pine siskins and, nope, didn't look like it.
any guesses?
and if you had a picture, i could let you know if you were on the right track.
thanks in advance.
