A Red Breasted Nuthatch (molting?) from my backyard.

I am assuming that maybe this Red Breasted Nuthatch is molting...  he/she was losing the red feathers from the chest through February.  I'm hoping it wasn't ill.  It's partner kept the red breast.  I still see them but not nearly as often as December to February.  This was taken in my backyard, under the apple trees around mid-February.
