While I was birding in Saltfleet this morning, I came across this bird that was very small, almost the size of a Brown Creeper,  and it was prowling through the thick field. The bird would not fly away when I got near it, but instead in would run away. The lighting was very poor because of the sun, but I believe I could make out its colour and it appeared to be Sparrowish colour. The bird was in the middle of a Swampy and Thick field that had been plowed.  The bird made no sound at all and was very shy. Does anybody have any Ideas, :?:

My guess would be either Song or maybe Chipping Sparrow.

Yes, there are alot of Song Sparrows in that area, so it could have been.

Another possibility of a small brown bird that loves being secretive is Winter Wren.

The location, a wet plowed field, plus the fact that it was running, rather than hopping or flying, makes me suspect a small shorebird.  Maybe a Least Sandpiper?  It would be a bit early, but many things are this year.
