Good evening. This bird was recently in my backyard. I suspect it is a common grackle, however the grey bar on the wings is not consistent with a grackle. It would be appreciated if someone could identify it. Thanks

Added http because I can't figure out how to get the image to post

Yes, that looks like a Common Grackle with some odd wing bars.

Welcome to the board Joseph,

It's actually not very hard once you get the hang of it.

1.  Click 'Img'
2.  Right click on the image you'd like to share from your flickr page
3.  Left click on 'Properties' in the box that appears
4.  Highlight the complete address of the photo (http://..............jpg)
5.  Right click on the hightlighted address and select 'Copy'
6.  Paste the address into your message for the board
7.  Click 'Img' to complete

Hope this helps you
Walter

You almost have it .. you are missing part of the full http:  path ... i.e. there s.b more after /4522428822/  ... you need the rest of the characters and the  .jpg before the  [/img] box
BTW: you can always check to see if you've entered the image link correctly by using Preview .. if no image then you know it's incorrect. Hope this helps.

That's why it says "Highlight the complete address...".  All that the (http://..............jpg) means is highlight EVERYTHING from 'http://' to '.jpg'.  It's a general instruction.

Thank you thouc for the help with the identification. It is certainly good to see a response from an old timer.

Thank you as well to Bluffs Birder and luv2bird for the tips on how to post the photograph. I will certainly use it next time I cannot make an identification. I almost used it again but I think I finally confirmed the swainson's warbler that passed through the beach this week.

I actually prefer the link to be posted rather than the picture. if I am following a thread over several replies, I don't want to have to download (takes so long - yes I have cable) the same picture every time. AND some people post a reply with the pictures as well, so that takes extra time. I tend to give up on those threads after the initial viewing.

What about you?
Preference for link or for picture?
(And should this be a new thread :) ?
