Early Saturday morning, I spotted 1 sandhill crane at Lynde Shores. I was able to watch it for a brief minute before it flew off. Also noted 4 green-winged teals and 2 kingfishers. Lots of common mergansers on Lake Ontario. Goldfinches and yellow bellied sapsuckers were busy. Song sparrows sang beautifully. Found a turkey vulture still roosting, as it was still cold. The swallows that were abundant and active last weekend were absent, perhaps hiding out until it warmed up. Also a pair of trumpeters.
Also saw: blue jays, red-tailed hawk, downy woodpeckers, robins, mourning doves, chickadees, flickers, cowbirds, grackles, starlings, cardinals, kinglets, canada geese, crows, mallards, GBH, mute swans, and buffleheads.
