Queen's Park, 10th May

Hi all,

a quick check in Queen's Park around noon today (10th may) produced the following species:

-American Redstart  2
-Ovenbird  1 very cooperative and allowing wonderful views
-Chestnut-sided Warbler 2
-Yellow-rumped Warbler  >10
-Palm Warbler  2
-Nashville Warbler  4
-Black-and-white Warbler  1
-Hermit Thrush 1
-Veery   1
-Swaison's Thrush  4
-Chipping Sparrow  5
-White-throated Sparrow  2
-White-crowned Sparrow  4
-Yellow-bellied Sapsucker  1
-Least Flycatcher  2
-Indigo Bunting  1
-Baltimore Oriole  3
-Ruby-crowned Kinglet   4
-Red-tailed Hawk   1
-Turkey Vulture  1
-Double-crested Cormorant  1

Nice. I was there this morning and didn't see nearly as much as you did. If you add the Northern Parula, Yellow Warbler, and Blackburnian I saw to what you have that's 10 warbler species in Queen's Park today. Not bad for a park right in the middle of the city.

i've asked this before: what part of QP are you at? the treed area on the north side or the entrance on the south side?

@yogistwart: It's the treed area north of the legislative building. The whole area can be good, but I usually have the most luck near the center of the park, in the trees around the horse statue. I generally follow my ears until I find a pocket of birds.

Today was another good day. The majority of the activity was in the group of trees just east of the horse statue.

i was there briefly this morning.
i saw the red-tailed hawk nest on the south lawn (there are 3 pines on the east part of the lawn close to QP's front doors. you can see the nest in the tallest of pines). didn't have time to go to the north lawn.
