Rather slow in the park today, although 9 warbler species were seen.

As usual the best place for birds was in the western end of the dog play ground (the bowl), although a few of the warblers were also seen in the north-eastern corner of the park, in three massive trees next to the baseball field.

It gets rather busy in the park after 8am, when dog owners, joggers, and park personnel start to make birding more difficult, however, warblers are usually less active in the very early morning. Seems like an optimal time for birding in the park is 7-8am.

Notable species:

1   Red-breasted Nuthatch (new for my park-list)
1   Ruby-crowned Kinglet
2   Veery
2   Gray Catbird
1   Nashville Warbler
1   Chestnut-sided Warbler
2   Magnolia Warbler
1   Cape May Warbler
3   Black-throated Blue Warbler
2   Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle)
2   American Redstart
1   Ovenbird
1   White-throated Sparrow
1   White-crowned Sparrow
2   Baltimore Oriole

Today the park was almost completely void of migratory birds, except for a Swainson's thrush and a Nashville warbler, in the south-western and north-western corners of the park, respectively.

It would be interesting to hear if the birds have left Queens park as well.

I did however find a female Cooper's hawk roosting on a nest. I can't believe that this bird has eluded me over the past several weeks while birding in the park.
