I am new to SLR Photography, and soon I am going to be buying a body to go with the lens I have and I was wondering what can this lens shoot good (raptors, warblers etc...) ?

The Lens is a Canon EF 75-300MM F 4-5.6 III

I am probably going to buy a Rebel XTI as a body.

I would buy better equipment but im only 13 and a Paper Route cant buy too much :D

Hey Cody,

Wow!, didn't know you were only 13 years old!  Under your name on the left it says you're an 'Old Timer'  It's great to see a young guy like yourself so interested in nature, that's wonderful.  Good luck with your purchase.

Not a bad setup for a 13 year old. When I was 13 all I had was a crappy point and shoot.

Hi Cody,  I used to have the Rebel XTi; it's a great camera and with that lens you should definitely be able to photograph some birds.  You'd have to be awfully close to a warbler to get a good shot, but definitely worth the try.  You will get good shots of ducks, herons, etc.  I find the raptors to be difficult to get very close to for a good picture.  However, if you're out a lot, you are bound to run into some great picture situations.  I've found over time, you get better pictures staying still and waiting for the birds to come to you.

Are you interested in butterflies/dragonflies at all?  You could probably get some good pictures of them as well.

I hope you enjoy your new purchase and look forward to your pictures.

Since you're on a tight budget, I would look for a used Rebel.  There are always new models with new features, so there should be used ones out there from people who have upgraded.  If you go new, check out the XSi.  It's still a very capable camera but it's heavily discounted because it's being discontinued.
