i went for a 7 AM jog today (on a weekend. what am i thinking?) and the Don trail was excellent.
there's still a great number of baltimore orioles. in fact, i saw more orioles than robins. they were singing and courting and very visible. the best place to see them was at the crossroad 30 steps north of the Beachwood wetland (or a 2 minute walk south of the O'Connor exit). if you take that path west and walk 20 or so steps, look on the north and south side (both the trees and tall grass). there were a number of orioles flying and eating and, well, wanting to make sexytimes.
sounds like the cedar waxwings are back (yes yes, they never left. whatever). i heard but didn't see them in their usual spot - south of the Beachwood wetland.
i saw what I guess to be an immature black crowned night heron (white and grey. no blue. smaller in size. it was not a juvie) patiently fishing in a side pond.
i was pleasantly surprised to come across one male and one female yellow warbler. the male was being chased by two goldfinches.
