Southern Migration of Hummingbirds in Toronto

This is my first post here.

I am curious if anyone knows when the southern migration of hummingbirds started in Toronto in 2009?

In 2009 it started the same time it usually starts, mid August with alot of hummers coming through in early september.

We put two feeders up yesterday and have seen a single female at any given time.

Starting to see them in the Brickworks in Toronto now...I was up in Kincardine last weekend and the hummers are everywhere...put up a feeder at my in-laws and within hours the hummers were showing up..

We saw many migrate through Rosetta McClain Gardens today(Thursday) ..guestimate of at least 30.

My first one of the season yesterday in the backyard in Brampton. It went straight to the Mandevilla - first time I planted one of these gorgeous plants in a tub.

I have never been to that park and we are thinking of going this weekend.
Do you have any suggestions as to where in the park specifically we might be able to get some sightings?

Hello Allan,alot of the hummingbirds we saw zipped right by us at the edge of the bluffs. Otherwise check around the taller bright flowers and the apple trees. Its very hit and miss. Today once again we saw many Hummers. Say hello when there and I will be happy to give U some tips based on what I see tomorrow. Its a small park so U can easily poke around all over it.

Is that a particular good time of the day to view the hummers?
As you can see, we have been backyard birders in terms of the hummingbirds to date and this is our first 'official' excursion :).

It is just that time of year,some go on any weather,alot of migrants in general move on North element winds. It gives them a push towards the city. Hummers in particular Im sorry but Im just not sure of any particular conditions they like.

Today while conducting our Hawk Watch at Rosetta McClain Gardens we observed 50+ Hummingbirds flying east to west along the top of the Bluffs.  As for Hummers stopping within the park unfortunately we cannot comment as our 'watch' location is much further away from the flower beds this year, at least until the leaves fall from the trees.
