Lingering migrants

Over the last two days in our yard (Bathurst/Sheppard area), I've seen 6 Fox Sparrows, 1 Chipping Sparrow, 2 White-throated Sparrow, 1 male Red-winged Blackbird and 1 Blue Jay. One Pine Siskin has been hanging out with the Goldfinches.

My winter regulars are here: Cardinals, Downy and Hairy woodpeckers, Juncos, Chickadees and both nuthatches. The local, adult Cooper's Hawk takes regular swings through our yard, too.

Hi Leslie,

I must be doing something wrong 'cause all I've seen were three black squirrels, two grey ones, two cottontail rabbits and what seems like a thousand house sparrows!! Well, ok, the crazy chickadees are always around and my pair of cardinals usually shows up just before dark when they know they can dine alone but the bluejays and the whitethroated  sparrows seemed to have gone; guess it's time to head out to the Humber Arboretum to see the crossbills.

Are there Crossbills in the Arboretum?  I haven't been in a few weeks.

No reports of crossbills at the Arboretum yet this fall but they have been reported close to Toronto so I'm sure they'll show up eventually.
