Today I had a long look at what appeared to be a song sparrow hanging around with the goldfinches, juncos and house sparrows near my feeders. It had a very heavily streaked breast but I couldn't see the central spot. I've often noted very late and early song sparrows but didn't know that they could spend all winter in Toronto. Is this correct?
By the way I went for walk in Taylor Creek Park on that Saturday after we received the first big snowfall. I didn't expect to see much so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard and then saw a belted kingfisher making its way from tree to tree along the creek. When I returned home a red-tail landed in a tree behind my house. Not bad for a non-birding day.
