BALD EAGLE - S.W. Toronto

Hello folks
I was walking around the Humber Bay Parks today and was absolutely delighted to see this flyer way up there...
These pictures could not be more horrendous but should serve at least for an ID...
Hope you don't mind my posting the pics here...I figured this was the best category in which to post this somewhat rare sighting...

Not so rare this winter at least as there seems to be a number of sightings of them flying along the GTA shoreline.

Good news. Thrilling for me, just the same, as I've never seen one before. A wonderful bird to watch, even at such a distance...

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I once saw a juvenile perched on a tree that had fallen into Lake Ontario, at my parents/ home in Port Credit...back in 1993....but never again...and I've spent a lot time staring at birds...

Heard that there are at least 5 of these in the Hamilton Harbour. Shall try to go tomorrow.

I was checking out Riverwood park today, not much activity in the morning except a pair of Bald Eagles soaring around over the park

for the long-time birders out there:
are we getting better "rare" raptor sightings over the last few years compared to 10-30 years ago?

I believe raptor populations are still recovering from ddt and hunting, but im not sure if all raptors are increasing or just a few (eagles, osprey, peregrine)

stupid me...I saw the pair soaring over head but assumed they were simply Turkey Vultures as there are many around Riverwood until it was too late, I got some pictures but they are not great as I only decided to take a shot after I saw the white head and white tail. They ended up heading back down towards Erindale park where they rested up on some trees on the west side of the river. Probably watching the fishermen!
