Report Chimney Swift sightings

The first Chimney Swifts of the season have been sighted on the Gulf Coast retuning from their wintering grounds in South America. As in past years we will be plotting the swifts' movements northward over the next few months. Please let us know when you see the first ones in your area. This year's results will be posted on our web site at: WWW.CHIMNEYSWIFTS.ORG along with past years' efforts.

I love this bird, and one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed was the nightly roosting ritual of about 100 of them in Wolfville, NS.
It was an incredible thing to witness.

Quite certain I spotted 4 chimney swifts circling overhead this afternoon in downtown Toronto.  There's an old industrial warehouse across the street from me with a nice big brick chimney they seem to love nesting in year after year : )

The first Swifts I observed this spring were on May 3rd, in London.
They were hawking insects over the Thames River(8 of them), south of the downtown core, at Cavendish Woods Park.

Haven't seen or heard much of the swifts in my neighbourhood the past couple of days.  Usually this time of night they'd be swopping and chattering up a storm as they chase the sunset bugs.  Is it possible they've begun their migration south already?
