During my search for a Merlin in Marie Curtis Park, I found a very accommodating pair of Cooper's Hawks near their nest. The male was trying to snooze and his mate kept nagging him, but eventually he woke up and I watched them terrorise the robins for a while (though with no luck, as far as I could tell).

After, I walked up Etobicoke Creek and found a dozen or so friendly garter snakes enjoying the sun along the side of the path where I suspect there is a hibernaculum.

Thanks! I found them by the female's squawking. He was mostly ignoring her.

Nice clear unobstructed shots of them Coopers!

And way cool about the Garter Snakes too.

A birth certificate shows we were born.  A death certificate shows we died.  Pictures show we live.

I can identify with that! (my wife doesn't use the computer). :)

Great shots btw. On one hand it's often easier to spot the birds before all the foliage appears but it can be difficult (if not impossible) to create decent backgrounds. Well done!

Thank you Rob and Howieh! :D I hadn't been out birding in a while so it was a nice treat.

Thanks Jo-Anne! It was tricky because I only had the 70-300mm on me and the snakes were tame/close enough to pick up. A macro would have been handy...

During warm and hot weather, a great place for sighting a variety of snakes is at Erindale Park (Mississauga).  :D  Also excellent for bird and wildlife sightings!

Excellent! I love snakes. Students I know from UTM are always telling me about the deer, I really need to get down there when it warms up.
