Hi folks
A glorious bird, not that these photos are too hot-shot. I wasn't too close, but did spend some good time looking at the beautiful bird. He doesn't love me, but I don't care!

the first is a bit blurred but who cares, it is an excellent shot concerning the content. I would think he would hang around with the other two of his kind but maybe he is a bit confused and will decide to stay all spring

yes, the first shot is blurred because it's been HEAVILY cropped, but yes indeed, the beautiful king eider in his stunning plumage was hanging around with the mergansers! Hopefully, yes yes, he's a deeply demented bird and will stay all spring and stay VERY close to the shores so I can observe him and possibly even capture him and have him taxidermied!

 o ya great...now everytime one of us photographers gets too close to the edge of the water we will be chased and beaten by all those extreme bird watchers with their huge spotting scopes...screaming 'He's the one"

 relax people I am sure he is only joking about the taxidermy! :lol:  with the weather we are having you have to make best of things

"extreme bird watchers" is a funny term. "extreme bird watchers" are funny people. they HATE jokes about killing birds. me, i love such jokes, especially good gags about capturing the prettiest of birds so as to be able to gaze into their beautiful birdliness forever and always. so far i don't have too many jokes in that vein, but i'll keep working, after all that's how you get to carnegie hall...
in all seriousness, why is there a king eider at the leslie spit? this is a big deal, no?

King eiders are now pretty regular on lake ontario, but an adult male is still pretty big news

Great 2nd shot David. I went to the Spit this afternoon in seach of this beautiful bird but without any luck. I spoke to a number of people but no one had seen him.

Perhaps king eider ducks can sense bad attitudes in people and are drawn to such? I was sitting on a hill in my muddy boots thinking evil thoughts about humanity and the world when a few birds flew right in front of me, some mergansers flanking my newest boyfriend, the KING EIDER. I missed what could have been some REALLY SPIFFY CLOSE-UP IN-FLIGHT SHOTS because I was too gobsmacked from witnessing the nearby presence of my favorite toughguy that I couldn't even bring my lightweight Nikon to my peepers and schnozz but at least I did get a few popshots off, faraway though they are. Holy cats! What a duck!
I wonder if he's still around? I'm pretty sure he likes to stay in the middle of the rather large cell, but occasionally I did see him fly close to the red footbridge...this duck must surely be demented...
