Kenko Teleconverter Troubles

Hello everybody, I'm having some issues with trying to buy a "Kenko  PRO 300 AF 2x Teleconverter" for my Canon. I have the Canon Rebel T2i and a 55-250mm EFS lens. I go to Merkle Camera & Video, I try on the "DGX" version, and its does not work. The 3 guys working there were stumped. So they say they can order in the right one. One day later, I get a phone call, they say it will not work with my lens. Heres the kicker, "go buy a 70-300mm" the guy says. Not gonna happen  :? So I call Henry's and they say it will work with my camera and my lens. Theres only one difference between the products at Merkle and Henry's. They are both "Kenko  PRO 300 AF 2x Teleconverter" but, they are diffrent colors  :x Henry's also said that their supply of converters is going to be replaced with the "DGX" one, and that its going to be hard to order in. HELP!

The 55-250 will _not_ work with T2i and a 2x teleconverter, AF won't work - it'll be manual focus only.

Problem #2, the 55-250 is a EF-S lens, which is _physically_ different from a EF mount, which means the lens won't even _fit_ on the 2x converter.

Even if all that worked, you'll be less than happy with the quality. There are very few lenses that have good enough quality to work well with a 2x teleconverter.

Aw man  :cry: So the Henry's people lied to me? Darn this sucks. Well, time to save up some cash for a new lens  :lol:

I wouldn't say that they "lied", but I'm surprised both Merkle and Henry's didn't know better.

normally, tele converter will not have AF function if lens max aperture smaller than F4 (like F4.5, F5.6)
