Tree Swallows at Sam Smith

Saw my first Tree Swallows for the season at Sam Smith early Sunday evening...  6 around the east side of the marina.  

Also saw the Night Herons, Eastern Pheobe and finally the Horned Grebes.

Oh, and a Beaver!  Swimming along the shore, got really close with us...  pics to post later.

I was there today from 3:30-5:30 today and went searching for the Western Grebe that had been reported earlier in the week but came up empty handed    Nonetheless it was still a great birding day, some of my highlights were
Horned/Red-necked Grebes
Ring-necked Duck
Hooded Merganser
American Wigeon
American Coot
Bonapartes Gull
Other numerous waterfoul (Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Long-tailed Duck etc.)
American Kestrel
Tree Swallows
Eastern Phoebe
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Plenty of singing Song Sparrows
My efforts were so focused on the Western Grebe and scanning the waterfoul that I missed the Black-crowned Night Herons!! :shock: I still had plenty of fun though as it was a great afternoon once the weather cleared
Cant wait till the warblers!!!

Woohoo! I saw at least 3 phoebes when I was last there, plus lots of kinglets and goldfinches (nearly into full breeding plumage now!).

I've never seen a beaver there, but there's a big mink that hangs around on the east side between the big rocks.

Were the Bonaparte's Gulls hanging around with the ring-bills or flying over, Will?

The Bonapartes Gulls were on the east side of the park in the bay, there were 2 of them and they were sitting on the water
