Hi Everyone,
A great day to be out on the Toronto Islands with more than 60 species sighted:
Highlights.....
1) 1 male turkey (foraging along the airport fence at Hanlan's Beach)
2) A flock of 8 Bonaparte's Gulls, some in breeding plumage (among the ring-billed gulls at Hanlan's)
3) 2 American Pipits (on the Ward's Island beach)
4) Canada, Wilson's, Golden-winged and Hooded warblers (and pretty much most of the rest of the warblers)
5) 3m/1f Scarlet tanagers (at the Hanlans ferry dock) and 1 Indigo Bunting (south-side of Trout Pond)
...some of the other notables:
Gulls - Herring, Ring-billed, Bonaparte's, Lesser Black-backed
Waders - Solitary Sandpiper (by the airport fence), Spotted Sandpipers
Sparrows - Savannah (along the airport fence), Song, Chipping, Lincolns, White-crowned, White-throated, House
Vireos - Warbling, Philadelphia, Blue-headed, Red-eyed
... and the rest of the assortment of orioles, waterfowl, flycatchers, gnatcatchers, blackbirds, thrushes, grosbeaks,etc.
The Islands have started to get busy with people, so get there earlier in the day to see the birds!
