Hi everyone.  On Thursday morning, visited the Welland Canal - sighted "Amstelborg" at Lock 4 and "Algolake" at Lock 7 - both heading Upbound.

From here, headed to Casino Niagara and lunch at their buffet restaurant.  A total pig out on food and dessert!   :D

After this, went for a walk by the Falls.

Sighted lots of birds:  Canada Geese, Double-crested Cormorants, hundreds of gulls, Robins, Starlings, Turkey Vultures, etc.

Visited the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens - beautiful flowers and lots of fish in the pond.  So relaxing.

A really great day trip!  :)

Jo-Anne ,
Sounds like you had a great day .
Heading for Niagara this afternoon , however, the rain will probably mean only inside activities .

Hi Jim.  That was one wicked thunderstorm that ripped through earlier today - non stop thunder & lightning with sheets of rain blasting the windows.  Saw a huge bolt of lightning zap Lake A. - it was awesome!   8)

Apparently London got really blasted and there were 10,000 people without power!

Hi Egret.  Check out Hampton Inn on River Road!  Nice rooms, free breakfast, pool/jacuzzi/sauna.  :D  http://www.niagarafallshamptoninn.com/  I've stayed here numerous times and it's always been great!   Niagara Falls hotels are always at their most expensive during the Summer!  The cheapest time to go is in October - years ago, I had a room with Kingsize bed and large jacuzzi, etc. for $59!!!   At another hotel, had a room with Kingsize bed, large red heart shaped jacuzzi  and fireplace for $89!!!

Places to visit:  Bird Kingdom and Butterfly Conservatory are both excellent!

Everything below is free! ...

Niagara Greenhouse has tropical birds flying around, turtles in the ponds, etc.!  :D

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens at base of Clifton Hill/River Road is beautiful - right across the street from Casino Niagara and very close to Bird Kingdom.  Beautiful flowers, pond with fish, awesome view of American and Canadian Falls.

A great place for hiking is the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve - unbelievable scenery!

A great place for walking and birding is Dufferin Islands.
