Heads up : Sandisk Extreme 32gig on sale at Newegg

Just a heads up, Sandisk 32gig Extreme CF 60MB/s are on sale at Newegg for $81-. That's the lowest price I've seen in Canada by _alot_. Everyone else is over $200-.

B&H has placed memory cards on half price sale since the flood in Thailand has caused a production disruption for both Canon and Nikon, in particular to the high end line of camera bodies. It is therefore a good time to shop for these high end cards. From a Photo Workshop which I attended recently in Arizona-Utah, the instructor recommended a Class 10 CF and SD card with excellent quality from Canada Computer.

The brand is Transcend, with the 16 GB Class 10 SD for $27 and the 32 GB Class 10 CF for $76, now on sale for $65.  The participants used them in D700 and D3 with very reliable result although the application was for landscape photography.  This Transcend CF card performs at 90 MB/sec read and 60 MB/sec write vs. the 60/60 on the Sandisk CF card. This Sandisk 60MB/s is 6 times faster than a class 10 card. On a 8fps camera, this is very noticeable.

At $80-, it's comparable to other 32GB CF's.

BTW, Class 10 means 10MB/s sustained, which is only about a 133x. For CF's, that's actually quite slow now.

Kin, I apologized for inadvertently offended you.  I understood from the Photo Workshop that the fastest performing memory card is Class 10.  Not knowing there is further details behind, I had to research to clarify the spec without any change of the original content.

The spirit of this public forum is to share one's own experience to better the art of photography.  As an exclusive consumer to Lexar and Sandisk in the past, the Transcend brand was introduced to me as a reliable third party source at a reasonable cost without any intent to promote proprietary interest.  In this instance, not being particularly savvy in high tech, I learned from your post the details of selecting a high performance CF card.

I've used memory cards from about a dozen different brands, AData, Transcend, PNY, Panasonic, Sandisk, Lexar, Verbatim, Patriot, Kingston, RocketFish, Dane-Elec.

Sandisk is still my go-to when I have a choice, but Sandisk cards are usually twice as expensive as the rest, so a deal like this is very good.

I've found most CF's are rated optimistically, but Sandisk have always been reliable in ratings and usage.
