Shooting in the raw!

Now that I have your attention.  

So, after a few friends have made this suggestion, I am now shooting RAW.

I like it.  It's a bit more work afterwards but the shots are improving.  The Sigma 500mm sure helps.

What do you think?

I to shoot in raw rob, also with a Sigma 150-500. I find there is more processing
to do afterwards, but you can usually get better results. Nice shots BTW. I like the
red breasted nuthatch, and the red-tailed hawk.

might take you some time to be won over.

2 advantages of RAW:

1. larger file size, therefore a better quality photo
2. better post production options without permanently changing the original file

what software are you using for photo editing? and who taught you how to use it? reading up on some tutorials and understanding some of the basics will make you like RAW to wondering why it took you so long to use it

Thanks guys!  The RBNH is my fave even on the un-natural perch of a peanut feeder.  And the RTH moment is most memorable of the past week.

I'm now shooting in both RAW and jpeg to make things easier for any sharing.

I don't have any programs other than the Canon "zoom browser" that came with the Rebel T1i.  Some do pretty spectacular things with photoshop.  Technical stuff doesn't stick with me.  There ought to be a "Photoshop for Dummies" program, better yet, voice command, where I can tell it what to do while I kick back with my coffee and Baileys after a cold morning out shooting.
