Hi everyone.  Woke up today to "Winter Wonderland" and my first thought was "it's not going to be a good count day" ... and wasn't.   :(  But ... had to try ....

So, went tromping through about 3" of snow at Maplewood Park from 7:30-9:30am.  The first hour was bad and I almost went home but decided to try one more walk around the park.

Total # of species:  6
Total # of birds: 61

Sighted:

Mourning Dove
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Northern Cardinal
House Sparrow

Sadly disappointing, especially with no hawks or woodpeckers.  The good:  beautiful scenery and lots of snow coming down while walking plus lots of paw prints in the snow - dog, rabbit and squirrel.

At one point, caught a very strong scent of Skunk and was looking around wondering where the Skunk is.  Turns out, it was a woman that had walked behind me smoking a joint.

Maplewood Park:  East side of Glen Erin Dr., just North of Aquitaine Ave.

Very quiet here except for the juncos that showed up just after dawn. Wow, is that snow ever heavy, thought I could sit on it and melt it - too slow so I finally gave up and shoveled!

Hi Howieh.  I haven't sighted many Juncos this Winter at all.  Maybe tomorrow.  :)
