A gorgeous day for the end of the GBBC! I hadn't been to Bronte Harbour for years so hardly recognized it, but what a great spot for birding! My 12 year old son was able to find one of the Snowy Owls after only about 15 minutes of searching. It was sunning itself right on the middle of the "C" docks - a very safe place for it since neither people nor dogs can access the docks during winter. Apparently there was a second owl on the outer breakwater, but we didn't find it. A very nice assortment of waterfowl amongst the docks and close to the pier: Redheads, G.Scaup, Golden Eye, Bufflehead, Coot, Common & Red Breasted Mergansers, and Long-tails. The final highlight was a Pied-billed Grebe, hiding close to one of the docks and near a group of Redheads. This was a lifer for me!
