Bald Eagle winter Sighting

Hi All

Observed the pair (i.e. or possibly offspring / siblings of the original pair) that took up residence here a couple of years ago circling high above this morning. I didn't see them last winter and assumed they went south.

Observed one of the resident Bald eagles on 2 occasions flying low in between houses about a 1/2 mile away from their lake side nest.  Since the lake has frozen over this year, I suspect their food supply has been effected and they're having to take more risk by searching further inland closer to residential areas.

Observed one eagle at the nest about an 1/8th mile away through binoculars and another on a tree beside the road yesterday in Port Colborne. Not sure if they are the original parents or their offspring?

I suspect there may be eggs. Even though I'm unable to see inside the nest, as soon as one mate leaves the nest, the other arrives.

One baby bald eagle sighted along w/ parents both on and off the nest.

Hi All

After a winter absent of sighting, I spotted one on the original nest and another perched nearby. I wonder if they are the original pair that built the nest years ago and if so, where do the offspring go?

Are you referring to the nest along Rueter rd.  from a few years back?

Nest is inside the Nickel plant property, big fence yes?

Yeah, lifelong resident - I don't think nickel is even refined there anymore - only precious metals for solar cells and maybe cobalt?

Hey Porshaah! Yes I've seen that nest, few years back during the spring when there were no leaves on the trees. At that time there was no activity at the nest.

Grew up in Port, Worked in Fort Erie, Left in 1987 for the big city and a Job.
As a student I worked at nickel beach for "Parks and Rec"

Hey Porshaah! Yes I've seen that nest, few years back during the spring when there were no leaves on the trees. At that time there was no activity at the nest.

Yeah, once the leaves come in one can get a clear view (i.e. at twice the distance) of the nest located on the western edge from the NW corner of the forest. (i.e. Durham /Elizabeth St. on the Friendship Trail) It's been my experience, that the offspring are ready to leave the nest by the time the leaves come in.

As a student growing up in Port I tried to not let my summer job at the Nickel Plant interfere with attendance at every beach campfire party between Longbeach and Wildwood

Recent views of the nest indicate there is likely offspring, as the parents are perched on the edge of the nest.

Some nest maintenance occurring ... observed one of the Eagles flying off, after breaking off a dead branch the size of a hockey stick, in its' talons to the nest.

Spotted a juvenile Bald Eagle perched on a tree near the nest. Not sure if this is the only one this year.

Now that the leaves have dropped, I've confirmed my suspicion since sighting a juvenile a few months ago, that the nest has fallen. Haven't seen any eagles since then and I'm not sure if they will rebuild and stay in the area?
