Didn't find any baby killdeer or sandpipers by the reservoir

Now for something completely different. Met this fellow at my evening walk. Shooshed him off the road, because there were lots of bikers.

When we go for our evening walks, we often walk on the stretch of Bayview south of Rosedale Valley to rescue small toads and frogs that have become stranded there because the curb is too high for them to surmount.  They are often there when it has been wet and rainy, so probably will need to rescue a few tonight.

How nice of you! I thought I was brave enough to pick them up, but I don't.  hahaha.

How ... far ... would you go ... to rescue? CPR? A rejuvenating toddy for the toady? A little blankie perhaps? How nice.

I once made the mistake of touching a toad. It was even wearing a banner that amounted to an injunction "DO NOT TOUCH" and despite this caveat I made the mistake of tapping it on the head, just to be annoying I guess, and to remind the amphibian that I had the upper hand, or even a hand at all. That indiscretion was punished by a nightmarish dream that I will not elaborate on but suffice it to say that I am now STARK RAVING MAD! Please, give toads a wide birth. There will be a toad invasion at some point during climate change and the instigator is Todd ... Todd the toad. A very clever toad with ambition. Author of the toad manifesto. Reading it will also make you STARK RAVING MAD. I've read it ... twice.

We just pick them up and help them over the curb back onto the grass and weeds.  Small toads seem to not be able to make the leap back up.  Large frogs usually have no problem and large toads can sometimes do it on their own.  They are usually pretty cooperative.
