The local Mississauga News has an article that the Winding Lane Bird Sanctuary land is up for sale as the owner had to move to a long term care facility and they are selling the land and it is looking for somebody to buy it and build houses on it.  To Bad for Birds. Phone your councillor maybe the city might step in.

Yikes...I didn't realize it was up for sale...apparently went up for sale in September...I had just posted a reply recounting my fond memories of it...the last time I was there, I had taken a young male kestrel who was apparently suffering from an inability to catch prey...I think he was a vegetarian...

I remember how Ms. Inman used to let visitors hold out dead chicks on outstretch palms and she'd call the great horned owls from the trees...how they'd stealthily glide in and take the chick from your outstretched palms...that was back in the 80's...

A very magical place...it would be like killing a mockingbird I think to let them build homes on it.

What's the latest on Winding Lane? The last I read, the City of Mississauga had entered into negotiations with Ms. Inman to buy it...

I was surprised to learn that the property was only 0.92 acres...I thought it was so much bigger than that...hefty price tag too...1.5 million....

Its sad to think of Ms. Inman in a long term care facility...the last time I saw her was approx. 1996...I took a  young male kestrel to her...she was vibrant back then...

Some possible good news on this front,a friend passed this Toronto Star article on to me. http://www.thestar.com/article/574410 The Toronto Wildlife Centre may relocate there. It would seem as I read it that only the part the lady lived on is now for sale. The rest is property of the city of Mississauga.

It's a good article, I was reading it this morning. As to why it's only 0.92 acres, the following quote would explain it.
