Check out various woodlots north of and around Long Point such as Backus Woods, St. Williams Forest and the Wilson Tract. All of these areas are on the maps of Ontario.

Be sure to take plenty of insect repellant.

You could also try Second Marsh/McLaughlin Bay in Oshawa.
Second Marsh: http://secondmarsh.science.uoit.ca/index.html
McLaughlin Bay: http://www.mclaughlinbay.org/

They actually connect to each other and to Darlington Provincial Park.

cheers,
jim

Sort of related.

Anyone have thoughts/experience with the Rouge River Valley trail system?
I've been toying with the idea of possibly exploring it with my daughter as an alternative to our usual haunts and thought perhaps to explore a bit of it this weekend.

The Beare Wetlands are part of the Rouge, which extends all the way up to Too Good Pond in Markham (good place to see a Caspian Tern fishing) and Richmond Green up in Richmond Hill (Elgin Mills & Leslie) and south to Rouge Beach near Lawrence & Port Union.

The Beare Wetlands can yield some nice birds, but it can get very hot in the open. There's nice trails going both north and south from there that go thru the woods. If you climb the hill, you get a good look at any raptors in the area.

Just to the north and east, off the Scarborough-Pickering Townline and Old Finch, there's a pond just north of the railway tracks that often has some good birds. I've had Green Herons in the area closest to the road.

Since I was a bit affraid to get lost in the wood at Long Point hehehe :) I went to Carden Alvar. Not a bad few hours to be out. I am beginning to like this place more and more everytime I go out. Thank you all for sugestions and epsecially Norm for his precise directions.

This weekend I will be camping at Algonquin Park and will be to research where to go there for best birding spots.
