Good evening all.
It was another nice Spring like day and great to be out and about. Today I met up with Ed O'Conner and together we did a walk through The Spit while saying many times, nice day, great weather, isn't it quiet down here, feels like Spring, etc. We also noticed an increase in the birder numbers out there. A sure sign of pleasant weather conditions out there. The photographers also seemed to be high stepping their way out to who knows where. Must be an Owl that needs 50 or so photos of it taken.
Among the nice birds we found out there were 17 Waterfowl species including Red-necked Grebes, American Wigeons, Ring-necked and Black Ducks, Redheads, Common Goldeneyes, Greater Scaup, Bufflehead, Gadwalls and all 3 Merganser species along with an American Coot. We also spotted a Great Blue Heron, a Lapland Longspur, a Northern Flicker and the Song and A. Tree Sparrow numbers seem to be on the increase or they just decided to show themselves.
Hopefully the nice weather will stay with us for the remainder of Winter. Soon the Ring-billed Gulls will be returning to The Spit. Watch for them by the end of the month.
