Good evening all.

It was another nice Spring like day and great to be out and about. Today I met up with Ed O'Conner and together we did a walk through The Spit while saying many times, nice day, great weather, isn't it quiet down here, feels like Spring, etc. We also noticed an increase in the birder numbers out there. A sure sign of pleasant weather conditions out there. The photographers also seemed to be high stepping their way out to who knows where. Must be an Owl that needs 50 or so photos of it taken. :P

Among the nice birds we found out there were 17 Waterfowl species including Red-necked Grebes, American Wigeons, Ring-necked and Black Ducks, Redheads, Common Goldeneyes, Greater Scaup, Bufflehead, Gadwalls and all 3 Merganser species along with an American Coot. We also spotted a Great Blue Heron, a Lapland Longspur, a Northern Flicker and the Song and A. Tree Sparrow numbers seem to be on the increase or they just decided to show themselves.

Hopefully the nice weather will stay with us for the remainder of Winter. Soon the Ring-billed Gulls will be returning to The Spit. Watch for them by the end of the month.

You sure do know how to make friends Norm

These anti-photographer jabs are getting tiring.

The Spit is open to the public, and also happens to be one of the better places to get a good shot of the Toronto Skyline. It's quite fair to say that birders are probably a minority of the users of the Spit. Even with _no_ birds, the Spit offers many photographic opportunities.

You sure know how to try and rally all photographers to try and make it appear that all are being painted by the same brush. A falsehood and you know it. Is that why you chose to answer my email in public. "Lets rally the troops" The responsible photographers know who they are and the others take offence at my jabs, I wonder why ??

The jabs are not directed at those who take photos of the City Skyline or people or trees AS YOU WELL KNOW Kin. The jabs are directed at the yahoos that spent 30 to 50 minutes taking flash photo after flash photo of the same Owl as has been observed by myself and others. I wrote about this before and you may remember that at that time it was about 3 photographers spending an hour at the same bird and flashing continuously.

Nothing has changed since then as it goes on and on. I asked before "how many pictures does one need of the same bird and how long is too long to be flashing in a birds face" ?? Is it any wonder that many birders no longer post Owl sightings nor do they let on if they have spotted an Owl when asked down there.

PS

This should be enough of this on this forum. Switch to another if you still feel like venting. This forum is for sightings even though I breeched that rule myself    with this particular post and for that I apologize.
